Learn to dance the traditional Palestinian Dabke dance with Amin Abbas, lead instructor and performer of Jafra Dabke, a Palestinian dance group dedicated to preserving & celebrating Palestine’s vibrant culture through the tradition of Dabke. Performing at festivals and weddings to community celebrations - the group brings high-energy, and a sense of community, honouring the resilience, joy, and spirit of the Palestinian people.

What:
Join us for a joyful afternoon learning the traditions, steps and significance of the Dabke dance. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes you can stomp in.

Who:
All are welcome, regardless of political or dancing experience, just bring your curiosity and energy! The dance can be high intensity, so you will be invited to participate at the level you feel comfortable.

When:
12-2 pm , Saturday 5 September

Where:
7/144 George Street, Fitzroy, VIC

Why:
As our people-powered campaign to re-elect Gab de Vietri in Richmond grows, it’s time to celebrate what makes our community special; our solidarity. Knowing that power isn’t just in Parliament or big corporations. It’s in us. Our families, neighbours and friends. Our community. This community supports Palestinian freedom and justice, and on this day, we practice that together through the Dabke dance.

One Week Later:
After the Workshop, attendees will be invited to dance together at our Community Festival Campaign Launch on Saturday 12 September, 4-7pm.

This election is a chance to fight the rise of the far right with a shared vision of hope for the future. Time and time again, organised people have not only fought for a better future, they have won it. With all of us involved, we can do it again.
