The Labor Government is behind an AI data centre explosion in the West, lining the pockets of their big tech billionaire donors at the expense of our health, housing opportunities, environment and water.

While the ALP has announced these data centres should no longer be built within 150 metres of homes and education facilities, these alleged 'guardrails' will not apply to proposals that have already been submitted, which includes the massive GreenSquare data centre in Spotswood. 

This proposed data centre will use 240-megawatts of power at full capacity - roughly equivalent to 250,000 households and the site will also store 4 million litres of diesel fuel across 16 tanks to power its "back-up" generators. The western boundary of the site is just 60 kilometres from a kindergarten and nearby residences and similar sized data centres in West Footscray and Brookly have resulted in significant noise and light pollution and degraded air quality from diesel generator fumes.

As the planning permit has been submitted, currently, the most impactful thing we can do is write letters of objection. At this event we will run a letter writing workshop and also give people the opportunity to be heard by local leaders and a state MP.

The community needs lots of people to act.

The west is becoming the dumping group for industry and this is a "gateway" project, chances are it will not be the last time the community needs to say 'not ok' to industry. The sooner the community fights back, the sooner big tech will back off.
